🕓 4:00 AM – Pickup from your hotel in Lima and departure to Paracas

The tour begins early with pickup from centrally located hotels or meeting points in districts such as Miraflores, San Isidro, or the Historic Center. The trip is made in a comfortable, air-conditioned private tourist vehicle. During the journey, you can rest, as the road trip takes approximately 4 hours.

☕ 7:30 AM – Arrival in Paracas and time for breakfast

Upon arrival at Paracas Bay, you’ll have a short free time for breakfast. There are cafes across from the pier where you can enjoy hot coffee, natural juice, empanadas, or tamales. You can also take the opportunity to buy water, sunscreen, or a hat if you don’t have one.

🛥️ 8:00 AM – Boat trip to the Ballestas Islands (duration: 1 hour 30 minutes)

You’ll board a modern boat equipped with life jackets. The tour begins with a panoramic view of the Paracas Candelabra geoglyph, a mysterious symbol drawn in the sand. You’ll then continue to the Ballestas Islands, where you’ll observe sea lions, guano birds, pelicans, Humboldt penguins, and impressive rock formations. You don’t disembark on the islands to protect the ecosystem, but the views from the boat are spectacular.

🚌 10:00 AM – Transfer from Paracas to Ica

After the boat tour, you will continue by private bus to the city of Ica. During the journey, your guide will share information about the history of the region, its wine production, and the local culture. The tour takes approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes.

🍽️ 12:00 PM – Free lunch in Ica

Upon arrival in Ica, you will have free time for lunch. You can choose between tourist or traditional restaurants to try local dishes such as carapulcra with dry soup, dry lamb, or a barbecue. You can also visit an artisan winery to taste wines and pisco.

🌴 1:30 PM – Visit to the Huacachina Oasis

After lunch, you will transfer to the famous Huacachina Oasis. Surrounded by towering dunes and palm trees, this place is perfect for walking, taking photographs, or relaxing by the lagoon. It’s one of the most iconic landscapes in the Ica region.

🚙 3:00 PM – Dune Buggy Ride and Sandboarding in the Desert

Get ready for the most exciting part of the day: the dune buggy ride through the desert. The all-terrain vehicles will take you at full speed over enormous mountains of sand, creating a roller coaster-like experience. Then, you’ll try sandboarding, an activity in which you can slide down the dunes on a board, either standing or lying down, depending on your experience level.

🏞️ 4:30 PM – Free Time in Huacachina

After the adventure, you’ll have free time to explore the oasis, buy handicrafts, have a drink, or simply enjoy the scenery. It’s also a great time to capture your last photos of the day.

🚐 5:30 PM – Return to Lima

At the end of the day, you’ll return to Lima. The return trip takes between 4 and 5 hours, depending on traffic. Arrival in the capital is estimated at around 9:30 p.m., concluding an intense but unforgettable day.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Recommendations for the Ballestas Islands and Huacachina Tour from Lima

Be punctual and confirm your pick-up point

  • Transportation departs very early and is usually on time. Double-check your exact departure time and have everything ready the night before: backpack, clothing, documents, and accessories.

Bring appropriate clothing for both climates

  • During the morning in Paracas, the sea breeze can be chilly, so it’s advisable to bring a light jacket or windbreaker. In contrast, in Huacachina and Ica, the weather is usually hot and dry, so bring light clothing, a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.

Wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes.

  • For walking along the docks and on the desert sand, it’s best to wear closed-toe athletic shoes. Avoid sandals or slippery shoes.

Stay hydrated

  • Bring a reusable water bottle and stay hydrated, especially in the desert area where the sun is intense. You can also bring sports drinks or fresh fruit.

Protect your devices

  • During the boat ride to the Ballestas Islands, splashes are common. Use a waterproof case for your cell phone or camera. If you’re carrying a backpack, make sure it’s waterproof or bring a plastic emergency bag.

Always follow the guide’s instructions.

  • Whether on the boat, in the oasis, or on the buggy ride, pay attention to the guide’s and pilot’s instructions. This is key to your safety, especially when sandboarding.

Carry cash in soles.

  • In Paracas and Huacachina, some establishments don’t accept cards. Bring cash in local currency to pay for entrance fees, snacks, or handicrafts. It’s not recommended to carry large amounts of money.

Don’t leave trash on the road.

  • Contribute to the conservation of the marine ecosystem and the oasis. Bring a small bag for your waste and dispose of it at authorized disposal points.

If you get motion sickness while on transport or the boat, take precautions.

  • If you’re sensitive to motion sickness, take a motion sickness pill 30 minutes before the boat ride. You can also bring mints or crackers to soothe your stomach.

Check the weather before traveling

  • Although the tour runs year-round, May through November is the season with the greatest fog in Paracas due to the Humboldt Current. During the summer (December-March), the weather is clearer.

Salkantay and Machupicchu I booked my tour to Salkantay 4 months ago and it was a fantastic experience. From the organization everything was excellent. I arrived in Cusco, Peru, a day before the tour, and that same day we were given a brief explanation about how the adventure would unfold. The next day we were picked up promptly and visited the beautiful lagoon of Humantay. The food was super delicious, thanks to our chef Erik, quite a chef! The next morning, we woke up early and our guide was already ready to start the walk to Salkantay. The route was a little exhausting, but it was totally worth it for the scenery: stunning nature, unique flora and fauna. Finally, we arrived in Aguas Calientes to finish our visit with the impressive Machu Picchu. An unforgettable experience, 100% recommended

Better than we expected! A very different region from the others, very interesting to listen to and learn about the local history, are many pools that are there since the pre-Inca period, more than 3,000, and the most magical is that it keeps the income of hundreds of families for years and years.
